Obscene Language

I usually dont mind reading books with obscene language. Since I know pretty much all the bad language that one would use, it doesnt really bother me that much. Unless it is like The Departed, where every other word is inappropriate, I wouldn't mind it. I know certain words may bring offense to others, and it is hardly ever necessary. Also, there are certain words that many people don't find offensive, and there are some that cross the line, and should not be used.

Independent Reading #1

I chose to read The Game by Ken Dryden. He was a hockey goalie for the Montreal Canadiens. So far, the book is okay. Some parts are interesting and others are not. When he talks about the game it is interesting, but sometimes when he talks about other aspects of his life, the reader realizes that it is just normal and what you would expect, therefore those parts are not very interesting. Hopefully, it will pick up a little bit, because I think it should be a book that I enjoy, since I really like hockey. I don't think that I will change the book that I am reading, but I am not 100% positive of that.

Kite Fighting

It sounds like Kite Fighting plays a large role in the lives of the people of Afghanistan. It is like a hobby that most everyone has in common. For some people it is even a business, on top of a hobby. It had political impact on the country, because for some unknown reason, kite fighting was banned during the Taliban rule. So it must have been affecting the way the Taliban wanted things to go, and so it affected the way the people lived their lives.

I think that Khaled Hosseini used kite running in The Kite Runner to help bring the story together, kind of tie up all the loose ends. Also, it is a big part of the lives of the people of Afghanistan, so you can't really leave it out.

Free Write

It was a great day, I was so excited for our jump. I was a little nervous at first, but mostly just excited. I was well prepared, as I had gotten lots of practice. everything was ready to go, I was up in the plane with some others in my platoon. Our chutes were secured and fastened, and we made the jump. I could tell immediately something was wrong. I took a bad jump out of the plane, and my balance was off. It must have made me catch a gust of wind that I was not supposed to catch. I was thrown way off course within seconds. I had no idea where I was going to land, I just hoped that it was in a somewhat safe place, and that I would be able to find the rest of my platoon. I luckily landed safely in a field of grass next to a river. So I figured that I would just go upstream for a little while, and go until I was supposed to go offstream to find them.

Walk the Line

I think it brings several things to the story, such as emotion, color, and just overall interest. It catches and keeps the reader's attention. It makes them think about what is going on in the story. It allows them to make connections to things they have seen, heard, or even experienced themselves. Usually they are necessary for these very things, no one will want to read or finish a boring and uninteresting book.

Poli Sci Reflection

At first I thought Political Science was going to be a very dull and boring class, and I was not excited about it at all. It ended up being one of the most interesting classes of my high school career. I liked the idea of constructive learning, and how we used the laptops, which made it more interesting. Instead of going by the book and from the book, which would have been boring and expectant, it was based off of conversation and everyone's thoughts and opinions. It was different, and therefore made a difference.

I think that this class did at least one of two things. If people did not really have skills such as thinking about issues or events, developing an opinion, and then feeling comfortable enough to share their opinion, or, having an open mind to whats going on in the world, and understanding pros and cons of certain actions, and then of course bringing thoughts to the table, then I think it helped them take the first step in developing those skills. The second thing it could have done was, if they did have the skills, it helped them realize that they had them, and put them to good use.
